How Pippify Builds Scoring Attributes and Guidance Rules

Summary

Overview: Pippify's AI can write a starting set of lead-scoring attributes and guidance rules for you. During setup, Pippin builds both on its own after the Your knowledge step. In AI Studio, Generate from KB proposes attributes for you to review, and Optimize with AI rewrites a single guidance rule.

Prerequisites:

  • You are the Admin.
  • For better results, add documents to Pippin's knowledge first.
  • Your business description and industry help too. The setup wizard fills them in from your website or files; you can change them in My Account › Company info.

How Pippin Decides

What Pippin reads

  1. Your knowledge, evenly. Pippin lists every active document in your knowledge and reads a share of each one, from its start, middle and end, so one long file can't crowd out the others.
  2. Your business profile. Your business name, business type, industry and description, your brand tone and voice, and your currency. For a Travel Agency, it also notes whether you quote from your catalog or from supplier rates.
  3. For attributes only: the guidance rules and attributes you already have, and the starter pack for your business type (the Travel agency pack for a Travel Agency, the B2B pack for both B2B types) as the set to start from.

Attributes (lead scoring)

  1. Pippin keeps, renames, re-weights or replaces the starter pack's attributes, and adds what your knowledge shows matters, such as your destinations, products, price bands or group sizes.
  2. It proposes a short set of attributes that best tell a high-value lead from a low-value one. Each has a name, a description of what to look for, a type (Multiple choice, Text or Yes / No) and an importance from 1 to 100. A higher importance counts for more in the lead score.
  3. It explains each choice in one sentence and proposes Hot and Warm thresholds.
  4. If it finds no knowledge text to read, it bases the attributes on your business profile alone and tells you so.

Guidance rules (setup wizard)

  1. Pippin proposes a few rules written for your business. Where your knowledge states a policy, such as deposits, payment terms, pricing, cancellations or transfers, it turns it into a rule.
  2. The rules cover communication style, context (for example when to offer a quote or a meeting), content to always include or avoid, and how to handle spam or off-topic messages.
  3. Each rule has a title, an instruction, a category and the channels it applies to.

Optimize with AI

  1. When you write a guidance rule yourself, Optimize with AI rewrites your instruction to be clearer and more specific.

Limits

  • Only the Admin can generate attributes or guidance rules.
  • In the setup wizard, Pippin saves the attributes, thresholds and guidance rules it writes and switches them on. It skips scoring if your workspace already had attributes, and skips guidance if it already had guidance rules.
  • If, before you go live, you change your knowledge or sample emails and click Continue on Your knowledge again, Pippin rebuilds them, replacing the attributes and rules it wrote on its earlier run. Ones you added yourself stay.
  • If the wizard can't read your knowledge for scoring, it uses the starter pack for your business type as it is.
  • In AI Studio, Generate from KB saves nothing until you click Apply selected. That adds the attributes you kept to your existing ones and replaces your Hot and Warm thresholds with the proposed ones.
  • AI Studio has no button that generates a whole set of guidance rules. Add rules yourself, or use Optimize with AI on one rule.
  • Check each generated rule's Channels afterwards. In AI Studio, you can't choose Messenger or web chat as a rule's channel.
  • Generated content is a starting point. Review it before going live.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Let the setup wizard build them

  1. In the setup wizard, add your files on the Your knowledge step and select Continue.
  2. While Pippin works, the Check and go live step shows what it is doing, such as Writing guidance rules and Building your lead scoring, and the rows in Pippin's setup feed (Pippin is setting up your workspace) read Working….
  3. When it finishes, the Lead scoring row (under Leads) shows the attribute names and the Hot threshold, for example 6 attributes, Hot at 70, with the reason, such as Built from your business and all 4 files, starting from the travel agency pack.
  4. The Guidance rules row (under How Pippin writes) shows how many rules Pippin wrote and the first one's title.
  5. Both rows say Change in AI Studio after go-live. After you go live, review them on the Attributes and Guidance tabs.

Step 2: Generate attributes from AI Studio

  1. Go to Settings › AI Studio and open the Attributes tab.
  2. In the Lead Scoring strip, select Generate from KB. The Generate from Knowledge Base window opens and shows Reading your Knowledge Base and business profile….
  3. Read the line at the top, for example Based on 3 documents: Cebu Tour Packages 2026, Booking terms, FAQ.
  4. Untick any attribute you don't want. Read the reason under each one.
  5. Select Regenerate for a new set, if needed.
  6. Select Apply selected.

Step 3: Improve a guidance rule you wrote

  1. Go to Settings › AI Studio and open the Guidance tab.
  2. Select New guidance, or open a rule to edit it.
  3. Write your Instruction, then select Optimize with AI.
  4. Check the new wording, then save the rule.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • After Apply selected, you see "Added N attributes." (N is the number you kept) and the attributes appear on the Attributes tab with their importance.
  • Rules and attributes the setup wizard wrote appear on the Guidance and Attributes tabs.
  • New leads start showing Hot, Warm or Cold labels.

Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • Lead scoring: "Pippin could not finish this; build your scoring in AI Studio" in the setup feed: the wizard couldn't build your scoring. Fix: after you go live, use Generate from KB or Quick-Start on the Attributes tab.
  • Guidance rules: "Pippin could not write rules from your knowledge; add them in AI Studio": the wizard couldn't write rules. Fix: add rules yourself on the Guidance tab.
  • Lead scoring: "A sensible start; Pippin could not read your knowledge for this": Pippin used the starter pack for your business type as it is. Fix: review the attributes, or run Generate from KB later.
  • "The AI service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in a moment.": Pippin couldn't reach its AI service. Fix: select Try again after a moment.
  • "Could not generate attributes. Make sure the backend service is running and try again.": generation failed. Fix: select Try again. If it keeps failing, contact support.
  • "Generated from your business profile — add Knowledge Base documents in AI Studio for sharper attributes." or "No documents read yet. Add knowledge in AI Studio for sharper attributes.": Pippin had no knowledge text to read. Fix: add documents, wait until they show Active, then generate again.
  • "AI improve failed. Please try again.": Optimize with AI didn't work. Fix: try again or keep your own wording.
  • "Failed to apply generated attributes.": the attributes couldn't be saved. Fix: try again.

Limitations & considerations

  • Because generated thresholds replace yours, check Hot ≥ and Warm ≥ after applying.
