Summary

Overview: Give Pippify your website address. It finds your site's pages, you pick the ones that matter, and Pippin learns from their text.

Prerequisites:

  • You are the Admin of the workspace.
  • Your pages are public (anyone can open them without signing in).

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Open the Public URL tab

  1. In the sidebar, open Settings › AI Studio. The Knowledge tab opens.
  2. Click Add Knowledge, then the Public URL tab.

Step 2: Enter your site

  1. In URL, type your site or a page address, including https:// (for example, https://acmetravel.com).
  2. Click Find pages. The button shows Finding pages….

If Pippify finds only one page, it adds that page right away and the window closes. If that page is already in your knowledge, Pippify asks you to confirm first (see Step 4).

Step 3: Pick the pages

  1. Pippify lists the pages it found on your site. Recommended pages are ticked for you.
  2. Tick or untick pages. The counter shows how many you picked (N of 10 selected). You can index up to 10 pages at a time.
  3. Pages already in your knowledge show Already in KB.
  4. Click Index N pages.

To add more than 10 pages, repeat these steps and pick the next set.

Step 4: Confirm a refresh (only if asked)

If you picked a page that is already in your knowledge, Pippify asks you to confirm. It lists which pages Will be refreshed (re-indexed) and which Will be added as new. Refreshing updates the existing entry and does not create a duplicate. Click Confirm & index, or Back to change your picks.

Step 5: Wait for indexing

Each page appears in the Knowledge list with the type URL. Its status moves from Queued to Indexing to Active.

Other way: the setup wizard

The first step of the setup wizard, What's your website?, adds your site for you:

  1. Type your address in Website, for example acmetravel.com. You can leave out https://. Your homepage is enough; Pippin follows the main links.
  2. Click Continue. Pippify picks your site's recommended pages and adds them to your knowledge, the same way the Public URL tab does. If it can't find your pages, it adds your homepage.
  3. The pages appear in the Knowledge list with the type URL.

If you go back before you go live and type a different address (or click I don't have a website), Pippify removes the pages the old address added, and adds the new site's pages if there is one. Pages you added yourself stay. No website? Click I don't have a website, and Pippin learns from your files instead.

Other way: ask Pippify Coach

You can also ask Coach to add a public web page to your knowledge. Coach shows the change for you to apply. See How to Fill Your Knowledge Base With Coach.

Verify It Worked

Success criteria:

  • Each page shows Active in the Knowledge list.
  • Click a page name to see the text Pippin learned, with an Open original link to the live page.
  • Click Test Pippin and ask about something on that page.

Troubleshooting

Common errors

  • "Please enter a valid URL (include https://)": Fix: type the full address starting with https://.
  • "We couldn't find that domain. Check the address and try again.": Fix: check the spelling of the address.
  • "We couldn't connect to that site. Make sure it's online and publicly accessible." or "That URL took too long to respond. Try again or use a different page.": Fix: check that the site opens in your browser, then try again.
  • "The site returned an error (HTTP 404)." (or another number): the page doesn't exist or is blocked. Fix: use a page that opens normally.
  • "That link can't be indexed as a web page — it's a shared document or file. ...": links to Google Docs, Google Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint or Dropbox files are not web pages. Fix: upload the file on the Upload file tab, import it on the Google Drive tab, or paste its text on the Paste text tab.
  • "PDF URLs are not supported — download the file and upload it directly": Fix: download the PDF and use Upload file.
  • "We couldn't find readable text on that page — it may be built with JavaScript that we can't read. ...": Fix: copy the page's text and use the Paste text tab.
  • "That page is too large to index. Try a more specific page.": Fix: add a smaller, more specific page.
  • "That URL isn't publicly accessible — it points to a private or internal address.": Fix: use a public address.
  • "Failed to find pages. Make sure the site is publicly accessible.": Fix: check the address and try again.
  • A page shows Failed: hover over Failed to see the reason, fix it, then click ⋮ › Re-index.

Limitations & considerations

  • Pippify takes only the text of each page. Scripts, menus and ads are removed.
  • Pages behind a login can't be added.
  • Pippify does not check your site for changes on its own. To refresh a page after you update your site, add it again: Pippify refreshes the existing entry.
