Summary
Overview: Connect your Gmail account so Pippin can read new inquiries that arrive in that inbox and reply to them from your address. Gmail is one of the two email inboxes you can use; the other is Zoho Mail. You can connect Gmail during the setup wizard or later from Settings › Channels.
Prerequisites:
- You are signed in as the workspace Admin.
- You can sign in to the Gmail account you want Pippin to use.
- Your browser allows pop-up windows for Pippify. Google's sign-in opens in a pop-up.
- The Gmail address is not already connected to another Pippify workspace.
- No other email inbox is connected to this workspace. If Zoho Mail is connected, disconnect it first.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open the Gmail connection
You can start from either place:
From the setup wizard
- On the step Connect the inbox your leads write to (step name Connect email), click Connect Gmail on the Gmail card.
From Settings
- In the sidebar, go to Settings › Channels.
- Click the Email tile. The Email card opens below the tiles. Its badge says Not connected.
- Click Connect Gmail.
Step 2: Sign in with Google
- A Google sign-in window opens. The button changes to Waiting for auth… and Pippify shows "Complete the sign-in in the popup. This page will update once connected." (in the setup wizard: Waiting for auth... and "Finish signing in in the popup. This page updates once Gmail is connected.").
- Choose the Gmail account you want Pippin to use.
- Review the access Google asks for and allow it. Pippify asks Google only to read and send email.
- The pop-up shows Gmail connected! and closes itself. If it stays open, click Close tab.
Step 3: Confirm the connection
- Go back to the Pippify tab. It updates on its own within a few seconds.
- In the wizard, you see Gmail connected with your address. Click Continue to go on. Pippin sets your reply-to address to this inbox; the Reply-to line in the setup list shows it.
- In Settings › Channels, the Email tile and card show a Connected badge. The card shows your Gmail address and Connected via Google OAuth.
Verify It Worked
Success criteria:
- The Email tile in Settings › Channels shows Connected, and the Email card shows the right Gmail address.
- The Ignored senders card now appears under the Email card.
- Send a test email from a different address to the connected Gmail inbox. A new lead appears in the Inbox.
Troubleshooting
Common errors
- "Your browser blocked the sign-in popup. Please allow popups for this site and try again.": your browser stopped the Google window from opening. Fix: allow pop-ups for Pippify in your browser settings, then click Connect Gmail again.
- "Disconnect your current email inbox first.": Zoho Mail is already connected to this workspace. A workspace uses one email inbox at a time. Fix: disconnect Zoho Mail on the Email card, then click Connect Gmail.
- "Something went wrong connecting Gmail. Please try again.": you cancelled the Google sign-in, or it finished but the connection failed. The pop-up shows Connection failed. A common cause is that this Gmail address is already connected to another Pippify workspace. Fix: disconnect it in the other workspace first, or use a different Gmail account, then try again.
- "Could not start the Gmail connection. Please try again.": Pippify could not open Google's sign-in. Fix: refresh the page and click Connect Gmail again.
- "Gmail connection timed out. Please try again.": the sign-in was not finished in time. Fix: click Connect Gmail and complete the sign-in without waiting.
- The button goes back to Connect Gmail with no message: you closed the pop-up before finishing. Fix: click Connect Gmail and finish the Google sign-in.
Limitations & considerations
- A workspace connects one email inbox at a time: Gmail or Zoho Mail, not both. One Gmail account can be connected to only one workspace.
- In the setup wizard, Continue on the email step stays greyed out until an email inbox is connected.
- If Google stops accepting the connection later (for example after a password change or removed access), the Email tile and card show a red Reconnect needed badge, and the card shows a Reconnect Gmail button. See How to Disconnect or Reconnect Gmail.
- Your Google password is never stored in Pippify. Google handles the sign-in.
