Summary
Overview: The Updates tab on a lead's page is your team's notebook for that lead. Post notes, reply to each other, like an update, and see every stage change in one timeline. Updates are internal: the lead never sees them.
Prerequisites:
- You can open the lead. Sales Reps can open the leads assigned to them from the Leads page.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Open the Updates tab
- Open the lead's page: click Leads in the left menu, then click the lead.
- Click the Updates tab.
Step 2: Post an update
- Click the box that says Write an update.
- Type your note, for example "Called her, she prefers a weekend trip".
- Click Update.
Step 3: Reply to an update
- Under the update, click Reply.
- Type your reply in Write a reply.
- Click Reply. The number next to Reply shows how many replies the update has.
Step 4: Like an update
- Click Like under an update or reply. Click again to remove your like. The number shows how many people liked it.
Step 5: Edit or delete your own update
- On an update you wrote, click the three-dot button at the top right, then Edit or Delete.
- For a reply you wrote, click Edit or Delete under it.
- When editing, change the text and click Save, or click Cancel.
Step 6: Read the stage history
- Between updates, lines such as "Pippin changed status from New to Qualified" show every stage change, with the date and time and who made it: a teammate, Pippin, Bigin sync or Monday sync.
- The newest items are at the top.
Verify It Worked
Success criteria:
- Your update appears at the top of the timeline with your name and today's date.
- Your reply appears under the update.
Troubleshooting
Common errors
- "Failed to load updates. Please try again.": the updates couldn't load. Fix: reload the page.
- "Status-change history failed to load — notes below are still up to date.": only the stage history is missing. Fix: reload the page later.
- Update stays grey: the box is empty. Fix: type something.
Limitations & considerations
- Delete removes the update straight away, without asking first.
- You can edit and delete only your own updates and replies.
- An update can be up to 5,000 characters.
- Updates have no @-mentions. Typing @ and a name is saved as plain text and notifies no one, so if a teammate needs to act on it, tell them directly.
